 The photo on the left is a white piece of paper against the white window shade in my room. The window shade has a more darker tone kind of like a gray, while the piece of paper has a more rosy color.
Now, this is the same piece of paper against the window shade but the light in my room was a lot darker. I turned the overhead lights off, but kept my string lights on. Compared to the first photo where the objects both look cold, now they both have very warm qualities. The window shape resembles a brown shade, kind of like a very light coffee color and the piece of paper now has a deeper rosy color than before.

Today Joyce Yu-Jean Lee came to talk to us about her artwork. She currently teaches at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City. She most recent project and exhibit is about internet censorship and it's a project that viewers can interact with virtually. But, she was not always an artist. She was born and raised in Dallas, TX and she comes from a family of Chinese immigrants. Since she was American born Chinese, aspiring to be an artist, or becoming an artist is definitely not the norm. PostModernism Project

My PostModernism piece is definitely something else. The color scheme is analogous or one can argue that it is complementary because of the limited use of color. I chose to use the colors from my original photoshopped image in the center. By adding the red and black paint and the black ink it really makes everything from the center image pop and stand out. I really wanted to focus on creating a fearful, dark, and horror kind of vibe. This piece is constantly making the viewer's eyes move across the image. The focal point of this piece would have to be the center image. It can be argued that their are leading lines created by the arms and the lines of black ink guiding the observer to the center. Also, the position of the red handprint contributes to this as well. The value of the piece is generally dark and the contrast of the white bristol pad helps the red thumbprints seem more visible. The Whole Ball of Wax Response

In Jerry Saltz's article, in the first couple sentences he mentions two curators whom make a bold statement of "art has the ability to change the world". After reading this article, I couldn't help, but agree. While reading this it took me back to a time when I was taking an art history class in high school. Our first class period, my teacher asked us what we associate art with. We went around the room and the similar answers came about, such as "paintings, museums, sculptures, etc." Then my teacher approached a desk, knocked on it and asked, "Now, is this a piece of art?" No one is my class rose their hand except for me. She asked me why I rose my hand and I said "Because anything can be art." Art can be a simple desk, a song, a painting, a poem etc. and all these things have the ability to change the world in small or big ways.
