PostModernism Project

My PostModernism piece is definitely something else. The color scheme is analogous or one can argue that it is complementary because of the limited use of color. I chose to use the colors from my original photoshopped image in the center. By adding the red and black paint and the black ink it really makes everything from the center image pop and stand out. I really wanted to focus on creating a fearful, dark, and horror kind of vibe. This piece is constantly making the viewer's eyes move across the image. The focal point of this piece would have to be the center image. It can be argued that their are leading lines created by the arms and the lines of black ink guiding the observer to the center. Also, the position of the red handprint contributes to this as well. The value of the piece is generally dark and the contrast of the white bristol pad helps the red thumbprints seem more visible. Even though the piece has many different elements to it and is not exactly symmetrical, there is a balance between the orange confetti construction paper and the small black circles. The red gouache paint ties both elements together.

The color scheme adds to the dark and horror feeling and it kind of draws the viewer in. If this piece were to make noise or have a sound it would definitely produce an angsty punk rock kind of tone that's misunderstood. The cut out arms at the bottom symbolizes the idea of being taken and since they're all leading to this "festival" in the middle, they want to take away the happiness and the joy that festivals are supposed to bring. The red paint at the top is supposed to symbolize blood and the small circles at the top are supposed to resemble trypophobia which is the fear of small holes. The black 'Revenge' in the upper left hand corner contrasts from the red paint and it could mean that "revenge" is going to be taken out on the people in the middle (in the center image). All elements add to the tone of not wanting happiness and happiness being a cliché. The knives contribute to the element of revenge and with the way they are placed in the hands of the people, could mean backstabbing and betrayal. Overall the piece describes the revenge of the happy, and how they (the unhappy) want to get back at the ones whom have left the unhappy out.
